Ultra-precise AI farming models and K-AI Farm development
Establishing an SPC to enhance private-sector autonomy
Project briefing session to be held on the 6th
The government is launching an open call for private-sector participants to build a "National Agricultural AX Platform" that will use artificial intelligence (AI) and robots to create an environment where anyone can easily and professionally run an agricultural business.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced on the 5th that it will be accepting applications for the Agricultural AX Platform project until April 3.
The AX Platform project has been designed to fully leverage private-sector capabilities. Project operators will be private-led consortia consisting of smart farm technology companies, AI specialist companies, agricultural corporations and entities, distribution companies, and local governments. Technology companies will advance AI agricultural solutions by using AI and robotics technologies, while agricultural corporations and other producers will take the lead in production and operations and verify the models in the field. Over the next five years, the government will invest a total project budget of 290 billion won (with up to 140 billion won in government funding), focusing 70 billion won this year as a priming investment. To enhance execution, the government plans to designate project sites as smart agriculture promotion zones, develop them into leading districts, and provide comprehensive support.
This AX Platform call will cover all areas of crop farming and livestock farming. Private consortia will be asked to propose business operation plans that combine profitability and public interest, tailored to the main objectives of each application category.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs will also hold briefings to encourage participation in the call. On the 6th, it plans to hold a project briefing session at Osong Station for interested companies, agricultural corporations and entities, and local governments, where it will provide detailed guidance on the application guidelines.
Lee Si-hye, Director-General for Agricultural Industry Innovation Policy at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, said, "Regardless of farmers' technical skill levels or farm sizes, the AX Platform will present solutions and implementation cases for complex farming issues, and furthermore, by establishing a K-AI Farm flagship model, it will create conditions for productivity innovation and agricultural scaling up, while also contributing to securing export competitiveness in the agri-industry. As AI transition is an urgent task to solve on-site issues in the farming and livestock sectors, we strongly encourage the active participation of consortia with outstanding technologies and creative ideas."
