Gumi City in North Gyeongsang Province has renovated the 'Platanus Barefoot Path' within the Nakdong River Sports Park to promote citizens' health and expand nature-friendly leisure spaces.
This project invested approximately 760 million won to develop a 2.5-kilometer section stretching from the Nakdong River convenience store to the Korea Water Resources Corporation's water purification plant. The existing 1.7-kilometer barefoot path was completely renovated, and an additional 0.8 kilometers of previously undeveloped path was newly constructed, creating a healthy walking space where citizens can take off their shoes and experience the natural textures underfoot.
The barefoot path features different materials in each section to enhance both the enjoyment and exercise benefits of walking. Section 1 (500 meters) is a fine sand path, providing a soft sensation so that anyone, regardless of age or gender, can use it comfortably. Section 2 (1.2 kilometers) is a fine soil path, designed to offer the comfort of natural earth. Section 3 (800 meters) is a fine gravel path, which gently stimulates the soles of the feet to maximize the effects of walking exercise. Users can choose a section according to their fitness level and personal preference.
The barefoot path is created under rows of plane trees, offering a pleasant walking environment in all seasons. On both sides of the path, 650,000 Liriope plants have been planted, and by July, the riverside will feature a unique landscape highlighted by purple flowers. As a trail combining natural shade and greenery, it also strengthens its functions as a place for rest and healing.
Jangho Kim, Mayor of Gumi, stated, "The Nakdong River Sports Park Barefoot Path is a space where citizens can maintain their health while enjoying nature in their daily lives," adding, "I hope everyone will follow the proper usage guidelines and enjoy the path safely and comfortably."
