Mokpo City in South Jeolla Province is invigorating the local commercial district by organizing various events to promote consumption at traditional markets ahead of the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday.

According to the city, from February 2 to 14, approximately 1,400 public officials from 8 departments and 23 administrative welfare centers in each district will participate in the "Traditional Market Shopping Event." This event has been arranged to stimulate consumption and revitalize the traditional market economy in preparation for the holiday.

In addition, the city achieved the distinction of having four markets-Jungang Food Market, Dongbu Market, Jayu Market, and Cheongho Market-selected for the "Seafood Onnuri Gift Certificate Refund Event" hosted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the "Agricultural and Livestock Products Onnuri Gift Certificate Refund Event" hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. This is the highest number of traditional markets selected in the Jeolla region.

The Onnuri Gift Certificate Refund Event will be held for five days from February 10 to 14. Customers who purchase domestic agricultural, livestock, or seafood products at the designated markets can receive up to 30% of their purchase amount refunded in Onnuri gift certificates. A purchase of at least 34,000 won will be refunded with 10,000 won, and a purchase of at least 67,000 won will be refunded with 20,000 won. During the event, each person can receive a maximum refund of 20,000 won.

Through this refund event, the city aims to ease the burden of holiday shopping and encourage visits to traditional markets, thereby expecting an overall increase in sales across the commercial district.

A city official stated, "We will actively promote the Onnuri Gift Certificate Refund Event during the Lunar New Year holiday to inject vitality into the local economy, which has been dampened by the economic downturn," adding, "We will spare no administrative support to boost the consumption of domestic agricultural, livestock, and seafood products and to revitalize traditional markets."

Meanwhile, the city held a total of nine special refund events last year, including during the Lunar New Year, Chuseok, and Family Day, achieving the highest performance in the Jeolla region and contributing to the revitalization of traditional markets with approximately 1.9 billion won in refunds.
