Yeosu City in South Jeolla Province announced that it will operate the 'Yeosu Island Academy' and recruit students to promote the value and appeal of Yeosu's islands, as well as to increase citizens' interest and participation for the successful hosting of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo.
The 'Yeosu Island Academy' will be held over five days from February 23 to February 27, with a total of five sessions. A total of 125 students will be selected, with 25 participants per session.
Applications can be submitted online through the Yeosu City OK Integrated Reservation System from February 2 to February 11.
This academy is linked to the Yeosu Island-specialized program 'Island Learning School.' Citizens who complete the main course will receive priority when applying for future recruitment of participants for the Island Learning School.
The instructors consist of experts in the fields of islands and marine studies. In-depth discussions will be held on the historical, cultural, and ecological value of Yeosu's islands, as well as their potential for use as sustainable educational resources.
A Yeosu City official stated, "The Island Academy will be a meaningful opportunity for citizens to truly understand the value of Yeosu's islands and participate as key players in creating the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo together," and added, "We hope for the interest and participation of many citizens."
