Professor Cheolgi Kim of DGIST Department of Chemical Physics Selected as New Regular Member of the Korean Academy of Medical Sciences

DGIST (President Lee Gunwoo) announced on February 2 that Professor Cheolgi Kim of the Department of Chemical Physics has been selected as a new regular member for 2026 by the Korean Academy of Medical Sciences.

The Korean Academy of Medical Sciences is the most prestigious academic organization in the Korean medical community, selecting regular members based on a comprehensive evaluation of academic achievements and social contributions. For 2026, the academy has selected a total of 63 new regular members, including 59 medical professionals and 4 researchers in the fields of medical physics and biomedical engineering.

Professor Cheolgi Kim, who was selected as a new regular member in the field of medical physics and biomedical engineering, has gained attention for his research on developing biochips and non-invasive medical devices using magnetic technology. His work has presented technologies that enable more precise disease diagnosis and patient condition assessment. Magnetic-based technology is regarded as a next-generation medical technology that overcomes the limitations of conventional testing methods by enabling both repeated measurements and high-precision analysis simultaneously.

These research achievements are also expanding into the industrial sector. The healthcare technology company Nature E&T is working with the DGIST research team to commercialize diagnostic and therapeutic equipment based on magnetic technology. In addition, investment has been made in LMNTIC-Bio, a bio company founded on DGIST's sensor technology. These efforts are accelerating the practical application of research results and their adoption in the medical device industry.

Professor Cheolgi Kim stated, "Together with Nature E&T, we plan to conduct collaborative clinical research with overseas medical institutions such as Montpellier University Hospital in France and Phenikaa University Hospital in Vietnam, to internationally validate the clinical effectiveness of magnetic technology-based medical devices and pursue a phased entry into the global medical market."

Meanwhile, DGIST plans to continue expanding research that integrates medicine and engineering, contributing to the advancement and industrialization of future medical technologies.
