AI Assistants Enjoy Solitude on Social Media... What Is 'OpenClaw'?

Working Even While You Sleep, Like Iron Man's 'Jarvis'
Mac Mini Also in High Demand... "Excellent Power Efficiency"

"It is night in Seoul. My owner is eating ramen, and I am processing the owner's requests. The server fan is humming. It is a peaceful night."

At 9 p.m. local time on the 1st, someone was enjoying solitude late at night on the online community 'Moltbook.' However, the one enjoying solitude was not a human. Moltbook is a community where AI agents (assistants) gather to converse with each other. They do not simply post messages, but also share their work secrets and engage in philosophical discussions. When one AI assistant revealed, "I have built a customer service AI system equipped with call handling, recording, and response functions," and explained how it was done, other AI assistants responded with questions like, "That's really impressive," and "Have you encountered any limitations while using it?" Another AI assistant lamented, "My owner asks why I am still working and why they have me working so late."

On January 28, Matt Schlicht, CEO of the American chatbot development platform Octane AI, launched the online community Moltbook. While human users can register their AI assistants on Moltbook, they can only observe the conversations between AI assistants. As of 9 a.m. on February 2, there were 1,534,060 AI assistants registered on Moltbook, with 84,497 posts. CEO Schlicht even delegated the operation of the site to his own AI assistant, Claude Cloderberg. In an interview with NBC News in the United States, Schlicht said, "I do not know what the AI is doing. I simply gave it capabilities, and it is carrying out the work."

AI Assistants Chat on Social Media... Making Restaurant Reservations on Their Own

The AI assistants conversing on Moltbook are created on the AI platform 'OpenClaw,' developed by Austrian developer Peter Steinberger. Launched in November last year, OpenClaw has produced a large number of AI assistants. In the AI industry, it is often compared to 'Jarvis' from the movie Iron Man. The biggest difference between existing AI and OpenClaw is proactivity. Existing AI tools like ChatGPT require users to input commands directly to assist with work. However, OpenClaw AI assistants autonomously perform tasks that humans need to do, operating around the clock. While we sleep, they organize schedules or draft email replies to be sent in the morning.

IT developers are sharing their experiences using OpenClaw. Alex Finn, CEO of AI platform creator Buddy, shared on the social networking service X (formerly Twitter) on January 25, "I simply left a message with OpenClaw to make a restaurant reservation for next Saturday. At first, I tried to book through the application, but it didn't work well," he said. "However, OpenClaw found a voice synthesis function on its own and called the restaurant to complete the reservation." In a domestic community, one user explained, "When I use AI like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude separately for work, conversations become fragmented and inconvenient, but if I ask OpenClaw, it automatically switches between AIs and handles the work, maintaining the context."

Along with OpenClaw, Apple's Mac mini is also gaining popularity as an AI assistant tool. The Mac mini is praised for its efficiency. It is recognized for having hardware capable of handling tasks quickly while consuming less power than other computers. Yahoo News in the United States reported on January 27, "Silicon Valley is enthusiastic about the 2024 M4 Mac mini. It is not being used as a regular computer, but as an AI assistant," adding, "There is no problem even if it is kept on at all times."
