Gyeonggi Province and 31 Cities and Counties to Hire 5,041 New Civil Servants

Gyeonggi Province will recruit a total of 5,041 new civil servants this year at the provincial government headquarters and in 31 cities and counties. This is an increase of 2,144 compared to last year’s recruitment of 2,897 people.

On February 2, Gyeonggi Province announced on its official website (gg.go.kr) the plans for the '1st and 2nd Open Competitive Recruitment Examinations (Grades 7, 8, and 9)' and the '1st, 2nd, and 3rd Career Competitive Recruitment Examinations (Research and Guidance Officers, Grades 7, 8, and 9)'.

According to the recruitment breakdown, the open competitive exams will hire a total of 4,703 people across 25 job categories: 40 for Grade 7, and 4,663 for Grades 8 and 9. The career competitive exams will recruit 338 people across 25 job categories: 76 research and guidance officers, 48 for Grade 7, 9 for Grade 8, and 205 for Grade 9.

Among these, to expand opportunities for underprivileged groups and promote organizational diversity, 437 positions are allocated for people with disabilities, 145 for low-income individuals, and 87 for vocational high school graduates through separate recruitment tracks.

Gyeonggi Province also emphasized the changes to this year’s examination system and important points to note.

First, a new requirement has been added for the Grade 9 vocational high school career competitive recruitment exam: candidates must have completed at least 50% of specialized courses related to the job category they are applying for, either as graduates or expected graduates of relevant departments. If this requirement is not met, candidates may still apply if they have obtained a relevant professional certificate, but in such cases, no additional points will be awarded for the certificate.

Additionally, starting in 2024, the residency requirements for the open competitive recruitment exams in general civil engineering and architecture positions have been relaxed in some cities and counties within the province. Candidates preparing for these positions are advised to check the updated requirements.

Candidates are not allowed to apply for more than one local civil service recruitment exam held on the same date.

For further details and the complete examination schedule, applicants should refer to the recruitment announcements on the Gyeonggi Province and city/county websites, or contact the Talent Recruitment Team of the Gyeonggi Province Human Resources Department at 031-8008-4040, 4046, or 4047.

Lee Junghwa, Director of Human Resources at Gyeonggi Province, stated, “As there are changes this year, including the new requirement to complete specialized courses for the Grade 9 vocational high school career competitive recruitment exam, prospective applicants must thoroughly review the announcement and detailed guidance.”
