[Weather] Watch Out for Slippery Roads This Morning... Caution Advised for Commuters

On Monday, February 2, commuters across the country are advised to exercise extra caution during their morning commute, as icy roads and patches of black ice have formed in many areas due to overnight snowfall. Most regions nationwide are expected to clear up starting in the morning.


Snow or rain is forecast through the morning in Gangwon Province, southeastern inland areas of Daejeon and South Chungcheong, North Chungcheong, and southern regions, while Jeju Island will see precipitation through the afternoon. In the Seoul metropolitan area, less than 0.1 cm of snow may fall in some places until the morning. Eastern inland areas of North Jeolla and South Jeolla Provinces are expected to receive 3 to 8 cm of snow accumulation. Additionally, 2 to 7 cm of snow is forecast for southern inland Gangwon, central and southern mountainous areas, southeastern inland Daejeon and South Chungcheong, North Chungcheong, southwestern and northern inland North Gyeongsang as well as northeastern mountainous areas, and western inland South Gyeongsang.

Some parts of eastern North Chungcheong, eastern North Jeolla, and eastern inland South Jeolla may experience heavy snowfall of up to about 5 cm per hour until the morning. In areas where snow has fallen, visibility will be reduced, and vehicles may slip on icy roads and black ice, so drivers should take extra care.


As of 5 a.m. on this day, temperatures were recorded at -2.4 degrees Celsius in Seoul, -3.7 in Incheon, -3.4 in Suwon, -4.3 in Chuncheon, -2.2 in Gangneung, -1.8 in Cheongju, -2.5 in Daejeon, -1.7 in Jeonju, -3.3 in Gwangju, 4.4 in Jeju, -5.9 in Daegu, -0.2 in Busan, -4.0 in Ulsan, and -1.9 in Changwon.


Daytime high temperatures are expected to range from -1 to 6 degrees Celsius, which is similar to or slightly lower than average for this time of year.
