First Grammy Win for K-pop Producers... K-Pop Demon Hunters OST "Golden" Achieves Milestone

First Grammy Win for K-pop Producers... K-Pop Demon Hunters OST "Golden" Achieves Milestone Still from K-Pop Demon Hunters. Provided by Netflix

The song "Golden," part of the original soundtrack for the Netflix animated film K-Pop Demon Hunters, has won the "Best Song Written For Visual Media" category at the 68th Grammy Awards, the Grammy Awards committee announced on February 1 (local time).

The Recording Academy, which organizes the Grammy Awards, announced "Golden" as the winner during a pre-ceremony event held ahead of the main awards ceremony that day.

With this award, EJAE (Lee Jae), Teddy, 24, and IDIO (Lee Yuhan, Kwak Jungkyu, Nam Heedong), who participated in the production of the song, have become the first K-pop composers and producers to receive a Grammy. While music engineers or Korean-Americans have previously won Grammys, this marks the first time that K-pop creators themselves have been recognized as award recipients.

"Golden" is performed in the film by the fictional girl group Huntrix. The song created a global phenomenon by simultaneously topping both the US Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Official Singles Chart-an unprecedented achievement for a K-pop track.

Immediately after the award, producer 24 stated, "I dedicate this honor to Teddy, a pioneer of K-pop, who has been my mentor and friend throughout this journey."

Meanwhile, in the highly anticipated "Best Pop Duo/Group Performance" category, Blackpink's Ros? with "APT." and Cat's Eye with "Gabriella" were nominated, but the award ultimately went to Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande for their performance of a song from the film Wicked.

The main ceremony for the 68th Grammy Awards will be held later the same day at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
