On February 1, with a heavy snow preliminary advisory issued, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency activated an all-out emergency response system.
The police plan to deploy 332 traffic officers and 141 patrol vehicles and other equipment, declaring a traffic emergency according to the weather conditions.
A police official stated, "Traffic control updates will be provided through VMS (Variable Message Signs) and navigation systems," and urged, "Please check real-time traffic information and drive safely by avoiding restricted and hazardous roads."
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, Seoul is expected to receive 3 to 10 centimeters of snow starting tonight. In particular, heavy snowfall of 1 to 3 centimeters per hour is forecast from late at night until the early morning of February 2, with some areas possibly seeing up to 5 centimeters per hour. About 5 millimeters of rain is also expected.
When snow or rain falls, visibility decreases and icy or slippery roads become more common, so reduced speed driving is recommended.
