Smart Tourism App 'Incheon e-zi' Launches Pilot Operation of 'Incheon AI Travel Assistant' Chatbot Service

The Incheon Tourism Organization announced on January 30 that it will begin a pilot operation of the "Incheon AI Travel Assistant" chatbot service, which is based on generative artificial intelligence (AI), within its smart tourism app "Incheon e-zi." This aims to help tourists prepare for and enjoy their trips to Incheon more easily.

Incheon e-zi is Incheon's representative smart tourism app, providing a wide range of tourism information in one place, including stamp tours, discount coupons, festivals and events, tourist attractions, and parking information. With the introduction of the AI Travel Assistant, the service is shifting from a search-focused information delivery model to a conversational and personalized tourism guidance service.

In particular, the global generative AI model, Google Gemini, has been combined with a database specialized for Incheon tourism, enabling the system to understand the intent and context of tourists' questions and provide optimal tourism information.

By using the Incheon AI Travel Assistant, users can receive personalized recommendations that take into account location, weather, and time simply by asking natural questions such as "Where can I go with my child this weekend?", "What festivals are happening in Incheon this month?", or "Indoor attractions for a rainy day." In addition to suggesting travel itineraries, the assistant also provides integrated information on all benefits offered by Incheon e-zi, such as discount coupons and stamp tours, significantly reducing the time needed to plan a trip.

The Incheon Tourism Organization plans to further enhance hyper-personalized recommendation algorithms and tourism content curation features by analyzing usage patterns and question logs collected during the pilot period. In addition, it will launch interactive promotions linked to the AI Travel Assistant.

Meanwhile, the Incheon e-zi app, with a cumulative 320,000 downloads and 120,000 members, is the largest smart tourism app in Korea. The organization intends to continue integrating the latest generative AI technology and data analysis to further advance personalized services and user experience for tourists.

Yoo Jisang, President of the Incheon Tourism Organization, stated, "The pilot operation of the AI Travel Assistant marks a significant turning point in the evolution of Incheon e-zi from a simple information-providing app to an intelligent, personalized platform for tourists. We will continue to incorporate user data and on-site feedback to systematically advance Incheon e-zi."
