On January 28 (local time), US entertainment magazine People quoted multiple sources as saying, "David and Victoria Beckham are shocked and saddened by their eldest son's public statements." However, the sources added, "They do not wish for the controversy to escalate further and have therefore chosen not to make an official statement."

According to the report, Victoria Beckham recently attended a birthday party for Emma Bunton, a former member of the Spice Girls, but made no comments regarding the family discord. Another source stated, "The Beckhams still love Brooklyn and are ready to welcome him back at any time," but added, "They have no intention of repairing their relationship with daughter-in-law Nicola Peltz." Furthermore, the source emphasized, "The Beckhams believe reconciliation is impossible unless Nicola is completely excluded from the relationship."

The immediate trigger for the conflict was a lengthy post that Brooklyn Beckham uploaded to Instagram on January 19. He claimed, "My parents have controlled my and my family's narrative my entire life," and added, "I've witnessed lies being fabricated and innocent people being hurt, all for the sake of maintaining a curated public image." He also revealed, "For the first time, my anxiety disappeared after distancing myself from my family." Brooklyn alleged that his parents interfered in his relationship with his wife even before their marriage, that his mother unilaterally canceled her promise to make his wedding dress, and that he was pressured to sign a contract regarding the use of his name. He further exposed that family gatherings were conditional, either held as large-scale events or required the exclusion of his wife.
