Advancing the AI Agent Service
Integration with External Platforms Like Olive Young and Musinsa Announced
Kakao, which has integrated ChatGPT into KakaoTalk, is expanding the scope of its artificial intelligence (AI) agent to enable not only remittance and taxi-hailing but also integration with third-party platforms such as Musinsa and Olive Young.
According to the IT industry on February 2, Kakao has been upgrading "ChatGPT for Kakao" through KakaoTalk app updates since January 27. Users who have completed the update can add or remove desired services in "Kakao Tools," the AI agent service. With this update, users who wish can now utilize "Talk Calendar."
Users can access various services while chatting with ChatGPT for Kakao. For example, they can send money to KakaoTalk friends via KakaoPay or call a KakaoT taxi to a desired location. However, integration is currently limited, so if a user requests, "Call a taxi to Gangnam Station," only a shortcut button that leads to the KakaoT app is provided at this stage.
Kakao has announced plans to link Kakao Tools not only with its own services such as KakaoPay, KakaoT, KakaoMap, Melon, Gift, and Reservation, but also with external platforms including Olive Young, Musinsa, The Hyundai, Zigbang, and MyRealTrip. Kakao stated that it is currently collaborating with or reviewing partnerships with these companies. Once service integration is complete, it is expected that users will be able to order products or book trips simply by conversing with the chatbot in ChatGPT for Kakao.
Kakao's AI agent ecosystem is rapidly expanding through the "PlayMCP" platform, which has been in operation since August last year. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a standardized communication protocol that allows AI models to interact with external data and tools, enabling AI models to send and receive data with external systems via MCP.
As Kakao Tools becomes more advanced, ChatGPT for Kakao could serve as a kind of AI operating system. A Kakao representative stated, "We plan to add various features in the future to enhance user convenience through Kakao Tools."
