The premium strawberries of Damyang County, Jeollanam-do, a major strawberry-producing region in Korea, have been exported to Singapore.

According to Damyang County on the 29th, the first loading ceremony of the new year for the export of 'Geumsil' strawberries, cultivated in Bongsan-myeon, was held on this day.

This export was made possible thanks to the recent global Korean Wave and the rising popularity of K-food. Bongsan Strawberry Farming Cooperative, in collaboration with the integrated strawberry export organization K-Berry, has signed annual contracts to export approximately 30 tons of strawberries to Singapore, as well as to the United States and Hong Kong.

The 'Geumsil' variety shipped on this day is characterized by its firm flesh and high sugar content. In particular, it is evaluated as suitable for export, which requires long-distance transportation, because it maintains its freshness well even after long-term storage.

Damyang County plans to accelerate its efforts to target overseas markets, starting with this export. Going forward, the county will focus on entering premium markets, especially with 'Jukhyang', a premium variety developed by Damyang itself.

To this end, the county is providing direct payments for export-specialized crops and joint sorting costs, focusing on enhancing the price competitiveness and quality of local agricultural products.

An official from Damyang County stated, "This first export of Bongsan strawberries marks a meaningful starting point in widely promoting the excellence of Damyang's agricultural products in overseas markets," adding, "We will continue to expand export support policies so that farmers' incomes can be substantially increased through stable overseas sales channels."
