Blue House: "No Official US Notice on Trump Tariff Hike... Policy Chief to Hold Countermeasure Meeting"

As President Donald Trump announced that tariffs on South Korea would be raised to 25%, the Blue House responded accordingly.

According to the Blue House on January 27, Policy Chief Kim Yongbeom is scheduled to hold a countermeasure meeting this morning with relevant ministries participating. Kim Jeonggwan, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, who is currently in Canada for defense contract negotiations, plans to visit the United States as soon as possible to discuss the matter with Secretary of Commerce Rutnik.

However, the Blue House spokesperson's office stated, "There has not yet been any official notification or explanation of the details from the U.S. government."

On the same day, President Trump wrote on his own social media platform, Truth Social, "The South Korean legislature is not honoring a historic trade agreement," adding that tariffs on automotive items and reciprocal tariffs will be raised from 15% to 25%.
