[Weather] Severe Cold Wave Continues at -14°C on the Way to Work... Strong Winds Expected Yonhap News Agency

On January 27, a severe cold wave is expected to continue, mainly affecting the Seoul metropolitan area and inland Gangwon. Morning low temperatures will range from -14°C to 0°C, while daytime highs will stay between -4°C and 8°C. In addition, strong winds with instantaneous speeds of around 55 km/h nationwide (up to 70 km/h in mountainous areas) will make the perceived temperature feel even colder.

On January 27, the minimum and maximum temperatures in Seoul are expected to be -8°C and -2°C, respectively. Incheon will see -7°C and -2°C, Daejeon -5°C and 1°C, Gwangju -2°C and 3°C, Daegu -3°C and 5°C, Ulsan -2°C and 6°C, and Busan -1°C and 7°C. As cold air continues to flow in from the north, a severe cold wave will persist, especially in central regions. In particular, on Friday, January 30, morning temperatures are expected to drop to between -18°C and -3°C, and daytime highs will remain between -5°C and 6°C, resulting in continued severe cold.

Dry weather will also persist. Dry weather advisories have been issued for northeastern and southwestern Seoul, parts of inland Gyeonggi, central and southern inland Gangwon, the east coast and mountainous areas of Gangwon, the eastern and southern coastal areas of Jeonnam, and the Yeongnam region. The strong winds are expected to significantly increase the risk of fire.

Rain and snow are forecast for some regions. On January 26, Jeju Island experienced rain and snow, and from nighttime, snow is expected in the western coast of Chungnam, southwestern Incheon and Gyeonggi, and inland Chungcheong. Then, from the early morning to the morning of January 27, rain or snow will fall on the southern west coast of Gyeonggi, western and northeastern Chungnam, central and southern Chungbuk, Jeonbuk, western Jeonnam, and Jeju. Light snow is also expected in other areas of Incheon, southern Gyeonggi, inland Chungcheong, eastern Jeonnam, and western inland Gyeongnam. Expected snowfall amounts are 1-5 cm in the mountainous areas of Jeju, 1-3 cm in Gwangju, western Jeonnam, the western coast of Jeonbuk, and southern inland Jeonbuk, and around or less than 1 cm in other regions.
