A fire broke out on Suraksan Mountain in Nowon-gu, Seoul, prompting the fire authorities to begin firefighting efforts.

According to the Nowon Fire Station in Seoul, a wildfire started at around 2:20 a.m. on January 26 near San 153-1, Sanggye-dong, Nowon-gu. At approximately 4:06 a.m. on the same day, Nowon-gu sent out an emergency text message, advising residents near Suamsa Temple and the surrounding area to evacuate to a safe location.


The fire authorities have deployed about 30 vehicles and 150 personnel to carry out firefighting operations. The current containment rate is estimated to be between 80% and 90%.


A fire official stated, "We are still working to determine the exact location where the fire started," and added, "There have been no casualties."


Fire and forestry authorities plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage as soon as the firefighting operations are complete.
