On January 25, National Assembly Speaker Woo Wonshik visited Jang Donghyuk, leader of the People Power Party, who ended his eight-day 'double special counsel hunger strike' and is currently hospitalized and receiving treatment.
At around 11 a.m. that day, Speaker Woo visited Yangji Hospital in Gwanak-gu, Seoul, and met with Leader Jang in his hospital room for about 20 minutes.
Speaker Woo had returned to Korea the previous day after completing a five-night, seven-day overseas trip to Singapore and Indonesia that began on January 18. He visited Leader Jang just one day after his return.
According to Speaker Woo's office, when arranging the hospital visit, they explained to Leader Jang's side that he was unable to visit the protest site during the hunger strike due to his overseas schedule.
Leader Jang, who has been experiencing chest pain and other aftereffects of the hunger strike, is continuing to undergo detailed medical examinations. It is expected that he may return to party work as early as later this week.
