Barrier-Free Concert for People with Severe Disabilities
10,000 Won Donation for "Disability Empathy Seats" for the General Public
Seo-gu District in Gwangju Metropolitan City has lowered the "threshold of the concert hall" for people with severe disabilities who are often excluded from opportunities to enjoy culture. On January 25, Seo-gu announced that, in partnership with singer Kim Janghoon and the high-value donor group "Seo-gu Honors," it will hold a barrier-free concert titled "Kim Janghoon's Lying Down Concert" at Seobitmaru Culture and Arts Center on February 7.
This event goes beyond a simple cultural program; it is significant in that it guarantees the cultural rights of people with disabilities in a practical way and realizes a "good city welfare model" that combines the positive influence of the private sector and public administration.
In particular, to ensure that people with severe disabilities and their families can fully enjoy the performance without physical limitations, a special viewing area will be set up between the stage and the audience seats, allowing attendees to watch the concert comfortably while lying down.
The background for this concert lies in the alignment between Kim Janghoon's philanthropic activities and Seo-gu's value-oriented approach.
Last December, singer Kim Janghoon visited Seo-gu to give a lecture at the Seo-gu Academy. During his visit, he expressed strong support for the "Good City Seo-gu" philosophy and sharing policies, and announced his intention to organize a barrier-free concert for people with disabilities. He has previously held "Lying Down Concerts" at venues such as Incheon International Airport and Starfield Library at COEX, contributing to raising awareness about disabilities and expanding cultural accessibility.
For this concert, Seo-gu Honors is supporting the event with a donation of 37 million won, strengthening the power of private giving. Kim Janghoon is also contributing his talent, expanding the original plan from one performance to two. The concerts will take place at 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., featuring pop soprano Han Areum and the folk duo Minyo Sisters, who will deliver a moving cross-genre performance.
Tickets can be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis through Naver Form starting at 9:00 a.m. on January 26.
Seo-gu District Mayor Lee Ikang stated, "This is a meaningful act of sharing that alleviates the emotional isolation of families with severe disabilities and enables all citizens to participate in disability awareness through giving," adding, "We will continue to spread the positive influence of the private sector throughout the community, making giving a culture and empathy a daily practice in 'Good City Seo-gu.'"
