LG Uplus has begun a comprehensive review of its obligations as an artificial intelligence (AI) developer and operator in accordance with the AI Basic Act, which came into effect on January 22, and is officially launching a company-wide management system.

On January 25, LG Uplus announced that these measures are intended to strengthen user protection and reliability across its AI services and to establish a stable compliance system from the early stages of the law's implementation. The company explained that, after reviewing all of its generative AI services-including the customer center and the integrated membership application 'U+one'-it is fulfilling the transparency obligations required by the law for services subject to the AI Basic Act. The company has improved its notification system to ensure that users can clearly recognize that these services are operated based on AI technology.

Specifically, LG Uplus has incorporated transparency requirements by providing prior notice in terms of service and other documents about the provision of AI-based services, and by clearly indicating when results are generated by AI. In addition, the company is strengthening education for all employees to enhance understanding of and compliance with the relevant laws.

LG Uplus plans to ensure legal compliance throughout the planning, development, and operation stages by managing AI risk through a system involving relevant departments such as the CTO, Information Security Center, and Legal Affairs Office.

Previously, in June of last year, LG Uplus obtained certification for the international standard ISO/IEC 42001 (AI Management System), officially recognizing the company’s ethics and reliability in AI technology development and service operations.

An LG Uplus representative stated, "With the enforcement of the AI Basic Act, both technological innovation and responsible use are required," adding, "We will continue to focus on delivering differentiated customer value and experience through AI, while pursuing ongoing challenges and growth."
