Over 900 Households Affected... Residents Return Home from Temporary Shelters
Amid a severe cold wave, a major power outage occurred at an officetel in Guro District, Seoul, causing residents to relocate to temporary shelters and endure nearly 20 hours of inconvenience.
According to Guro District Office and other sources on January 24, a sudden blackout occurred at around 9:30 p.m. the previous day at an officetel building and nearby commercial facilities located in Guro-dong, Guro District.
The cause of the outage was a water leak in the electrical room on the second basement floor, which resulted in a complete power cut to two officetel buildings housing 939 households and all adjacent commercial spaces.
With the electricity cut off, residents had to withstand the cold without heating devices, and some were trapped in elevators. During the incident, two residents were rescued by the fire authorities.
The malfunctioning electrical equipment was found to be part of the officetel's own facilities, and Korea Electric Power Corporation and relevant authorities assisted in the restoration work. After replacing the equipment and conducting electrical safety inspections, power was fully restored at around 4:54 p.m. on January 24, approximately 19 hours and 30 minutes after the outage began.
During the blackout, Guro District opened the auditorium of the Guro 1-dong Community Center and nearby apartment senior centers as temporary shelters. The district stated that residents who had evacuated were gradually returning home following the completion of restoration.
