According to officials from the National Unification Advisory Council on the 23rd, Lee exhibited symptoms of weakened breathing while on a business trip in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and was taken to the emergency room by ambulance. It has been reported that he suffered cardiac arrest during the transfer to the hospital, but his breathing was restored after receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
It is known that Lee was preparing procedures to return to Korea that morning due to feeling unwell.
Lee is a former seven-term lawmaker who also served as Prime Minister. He was appointed Executive Vice Chairperson of the National Unification Advisory Council in October last year.
