African Swine Fever Confirmed in Anseong, Gyeonggi Province

A second case of African Swine Fever (ASF) this year has been confirmed at a pig farm in Anseong, Gyeonggi Province.

On January 23, the ASF Central Accident Response Headquarters dispatched an initial quarantine team and an epidemiological investigation team to the site, blocked access to the farm by outsiders and vehicles, and culled 2,600 pigs that were being raised at the affected farm.

Anseong had not previously reported any cases of ASF in either farms or wild boars.

The Central Response Headquarters stated that the scale of the culling amounts to less than 0.02% of the total pig population, and therefore the impact on the domestic pork supply is expected to be limited.

A 48-hour standstill order was issued for six cities and counties adjacent to Anseong: Pyeongtaek, Yongin, and Icheon in Gyeonggi Province; Cheonan in South Chungcheong Province; and Jincheon and Eumseong in North Chungcheong Province.

In addition, intensive disinfection is being carried out at 638 pig farms and surrounding roads in Anseong and neighboring cities and counties. Emergency and detailed inspections are also underway at 38 farms within a 10-kilometer quarantine zone around the affected farm, as well as at 49 pig farms that are epidemiologically linked to the outbreak.
