On January 21, Yeongam County in South Jeolla Province held a 'Communication Meeting with the Taxi Industry' at the county office to discuss ways to improve the quality of local transportation services and advance the taxi industry.

According to the county on the 23rd, the meeting was attended by County Governor Woo Seunghee, Lee Sigon, head of the Yeongam County branch of the Individual Taxi Association, and other representatives from the taxi sector. They listened to the concerns of taxi drivers and sought solutions to current issues.

Key agenda items included measures to promote tourism taxis in connection with local tourism resources, a request to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to increase the number of taxis eligible for reduction compensation, discussions on the jurisdiction for taxi operations, and plans to unify township and village taxi services.

Additionally, various opinions raised on-site were shared, such as efficient operation of voucher taxis to guarantee mobility rights for transportation-vulnerable groups and the improvement of taxi garage facilities.

The county plans to review relevant laws and regulations regarding the suggestions made at the meeting, promptly incorporate feasible items into policy, and take follow-up actions such as securing budgets if necessary.

Woo Seunghee, Governor of Yeongam County, stated, "Based on feedback from the field, we will work together to improve the business environment for the taxi industry and enhance the quality of transportation services," adding, "We will continue to communicate to provide safer and more convenient transportation for county residents."
