Rookie Police Officer Retraces Student's Steps
Bag Recovered the Next Day
"Thanks a lot Korean police."
A story has emerged of a foreign student in Korea who left a bag containing his passport and tuition fees on a bus, only to recover it the next day thanks to the proactive and meticulous assistance of a rookie police officer.
According to the Jeonbuk Provincial Police Agency on January 23, Mr. Raman Bin Tajwar, a Bangladeshi national pursuing a master's degree at a university in North Jeolla Province, visited the Ajung Police Box at Jeonju Deokjin Police Station around 5 p.m. on January 17.
The international student urgently requested help, saying, "I left my bag containing my tuition fees, foreigner registration card, and passport, as well as my mobile phone, on the bus." Of course, he spoke in Bengali.
Police Officer Kim Jaerok, who received the report, tried to communicate using gestures and a translation app, but the student could not recall the name of the bus company he had used.
Officer Kim retraced the student's boarding and drop-off locations and repeatedly called bus associations and transportation companies. As a result, he was able to identify the specific bus the student had taken after about 15 hours.
Officer Kim informed the student that the bus had been found, and the student visited the bus company around 8 a.m. the next day to retrieve his valuable bag. Grateful for the assistance, the student returned to the police box and delivered a handwritten note expressing his appreciation for the kindness of the Korean police.
A police official stated, "It was a simple lost-and-found case, but Officer Kim, upon hearing the unfortunate story of a foreigner, contacted each bus company representative individually. We are relieved that the lost items were recovered quickly."
