Interview with Joo Kyun Jung, CEO of Daven AI
Permanent Preservation of Original Data and Creation Timestamp
Copyright Protection Now Possible for AI-Generated Works
"We have made it possible to permanently record the creation history of AI-generated characters on the blockchain so that copyright can be proven. Even if someone tampers with it or falsely claims they created it first, it will be useless."
Joo Kyun Jung, CEO of Daven AI, said this in an interview with The Asia Business Daily, adding, "Korea has strengths in soft power, including content. Creators can use Daven AI's copyright proof service to protect their rights to AI-generated outputs and continue their activities with peace of mind."
Daven AI provides a solution that allows users to complete image and video production, script writing, and music composition within minutes with a simple prompt and a single click. Jung came up with the idea while teaching programming to children in Tanzania during the COVID-19 pandemic to support their livelihoods. The company is currently based in the United States and offers its services from there. He explained, "People in Africa speak English fluently, so I thought that if we taught them a bit of technology, they would be able to produce content," adding, "We combined generative AI with creators."
However, Jung's thinking did not stop there. He began to contemplate how creative works produced through AI, which will be created in far greater volume going forward, could be protected. Recalling how he had spent a full year seeking recognition for his past work on a "technology that converts real-world assets into digital tokens," he said he felt it was necessary to ensure that AI-generated creations could also have copyright.
He found the answer in blockchain-based real-world asset (RWA) tokenization. Daven AI's copyright proof solution records the original data of generated characters and content, as well as the time of creation, on a blockchain network. It proves, in a tamper-proof state, both that "the content existed at a specific point in time" and that "a specific individual generated it." In other words, blockchain guarantees data sovereignty and permanence.
He stressed, "Blockchain has not been used as widely as expected outside of coin investment, but it has the characteristic that data is permanently preserved on the network even if a platform disappears," adding, "It guarantees creators' data ownership and enables immediate tracking as well." He went on, "Although many people have not yet come into contact with it, I believe both physical and intangible assets will all be turned into digital assets."
Jung predicted that AI models will rapidly shift from general-purpose to vertical (specialized) applications. In line with this, he said that once the current AI for creators becomes firmly established, he would like to expand into education and consulting AI. "AI is replacing corporate consulting," he said. "Even without spending a lot of money, people will be able to access high-level information, and that market will unfold in various formats, including paid and ad-supported models."
He also expressed hope that the government would create more pathways for overseas expansion at a time when AI, once the exclusive domain of corporations, is now used by everyone through generative AI. Given that Korea is highly capable of combining existing elements to create something new, he argued that government support is needed so that these outcomes can extend beyond its borders. Jung said, "When the venture boom occurred in the 1990s, there were no precedents, so everyone started from a similar starting line, but now we have a structure in which only one big company survives," adding, "To achieve innovation and competitiveness, we need to go outside Korea."
