Seoul's Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Cho Sungmyung) will host the "2026 Lunar New Year Gangnam-gu Direct Market" in the district office parking lot on February 3, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday.
More than 40 local governments from across the country and over 80 agricultural producers will participate in this direct market event. There will be a total of 60 sales booths at the venue. Visitors can find a wide range of products in one place, from ritual foods such as Korean beef, apples, and pears, to regional specialties like dried yellow corvina and mushrooms. Items purchased on-site can be shipped anywhere nationwide via courier service (4,000 won per shipment) until 4:00 p.m.
The event zone will feature activities such as tarot card New Year's fortune readings and a large-scale Yutnori game. At the Nonghyup booth, the first 300 customers to spend over 50,000 won will receive 1kg of rice cake for tteokguk on a first-come, first-served basis.
At the Friendship Cities Promotion Hall, Gangnam-gu’s sister cities-Yanggu, Jeungpyeong, Dangjin, Yeongju, Chilgok, Gunsan, and others-will introduce their local specialties and regional policies. The Saemaeul Women’s Association Food Market will offer dishes such as banquet noodle soup, fermented skate sashimi, and savory pancakes.
The opening ceremony will take place at 10:00 a.m. on the day of the event, with the district mayor and local dignitaries in attendance, featuring a New Year’s wish performance. For residents unable to visit in person, items can be checked in advance and pre-ordered directly from producers by phone between January 26 and 30, via the district office website or leaflets available at local community centers.
Cho Sungmyung, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, stated, "We have prepared a direct market where you can conveniently purchase high-quality goods directly from the source," adding, "I hope you enjoy ample shopping at the market and have a bountiful holiday with your family."
