Chungnam Provincial Council Institutionalizes 'Young Fishery Workers' to Counter Local Extinction

Ordinance Supporting Young Fishery Workers Association Passes Committee Review
Comprehensive Support for Startups, Settlement, and Market Expansion

Chungnam Provincial Council Institutionalizes 'Young Fishery Workers' to Counter Local Extinction Chungnam Provincial Council member Shin Youngho

Policy measures to revitalize fishing villages, which are at the forefront of local extinction, have been established in Chungnam.

With the passage of an ordinance bill in the standing committee that institutionally supports the influx and stable settlement of young fishery workers, policies to restore fishing communities weakened by aging populations and labor shortages are being transformed.

The Chungnam Provincial Council announced that at the 363rd extraordinary session's Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine Affairs Committee held on January 22, Assemblyman Shin Youngho (Seocheon 2, People Power Party) sponsored and passed the original draft of the "Ordinance on Support for the Chungnam Association of Young Fishery Workers."

This ordinance bill establishes an institutional foundation to foster young fishery workers not merely as policy beneficiaries, but as key players leading the region's fisheries industry.

The aim is to build a communication governance structure led by young fishery workers and to support systematic activities of the "Chungnam Association of Young Fishery Workers," thereby encouraging the inflow and long-term settlement of young talent in the region.

The ordinance bill clearly defines the responsibilities of the governor to support the association and, within the budget, allows support for: ▲ discovering fishery-related policies and exchanging information ▲ supporting young fishery workers in starting businesses and settling in the industry ▲ providing education and professional consulting ▲ developing sales channels for products ▲ and conducting pilot and research projects to improve the quality of fishery products.

Assemblyman Shin stated, "This ordinance bill establishes an institutional foundation for young fishery workers to take root stably in the region and grow as key players in the development of the fisheries industry," adding, "I hope that the voices from the field will be reflected in policy through the Young Fishery Workers Association, and that this will lead to practical support."

He further emphasized, "If systematic development policies are promoted at the provincial level, it will not only strengthen the capabilities of young fishery workers but also provide practical help in enhancing the overall competitiveness of the regional fisheries industry and revitalizing fishing villages."

Meanwhile, the ordinance bill is scheduled for final review and resolution at the 2nd plenary session of the 363rd extraordinary session to be held on February 3.
