Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Attends NATO Military Committee Chiefs of Defense Meeting

The NATO Military Committee Chiefs of Defense Meeting is a forum where senior military officials from NATO member states and partner countries gather to discuss major security issues. Since its first participation in 2010, the Joint Chiefs of Staff has attended the meeting for the eleventh time this year. The Joint Chiefs of Staff was invited to this year's NATO Chiefs of Defense Meeting as an Indo-Pacific Partner (IPP).

Vice Chairman Kwon met with senior military officials from NATO member states and partner countries, including Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, Chairman of the NATO Military Committee (Admiral of the Italian Navy), to exchange views on key security issues and reached a consensus on the need for continued communication and expanded cooperation within the international community.

During the meeting, on January 22 local time, Vice Chairman Kwon is scheduled to give a presentation on the topic "Rapidly Changing Security Environment and Korea's Response." He will provide a comprehensive assessment of transnational and non-military threats arising from the international arms race, as well as the security situation on the Korean Peninsula, including North Korea's cyber and space threats. He will also emphasize the importance of responding together through close cooperation and coordination with the international community.
