Gyeonggi Province to Expand AI-Based Solitary Death Prevention and Response System to More Cities and Counties

Gyeonggi Province will continue its "Gyeonggi-do AI-Based Solitary Death Prevention and Response Service," which utilizes life data analysis and artificial intelligence technology, this year as well.

The solitary death prevention and response service is a system that predicts and immediately responds to the risk of solitary death by comprehensively analyzing data such as electricity usage, communication records, and activity data through artificial intelligence (AI).

In 2023, Gyeonggi Province established a response system based on data and artificial intelligence to proactively identify individuals at risk of solitary death and prevent the increasing number of such incidents.

Last year, the province expanded its monitoring service to cover holidays and introduced a dispatch service, establishing an operational system capable of responding to emergencies even on weekends and public holidays.

Gyeonggi Province is conducting outdoor activity encouragement events and providing brain activity games through the DdokD App. The aim is to increase daily activities to prevent social isolation and delay cognitive decline. To promote app usage, incentives will be given for practicing outdoor activities or participating in cognitive activities.

Lee Eojinbit, Director of the Gyeonggi Province AI Frontier Policy Division, stated, "According to statistics from the Ministry of Health and Welfare, of the 3,661 solitary death cases nationwide in 2023, Gyeonggi Province accounted for 922 cases, representing 25.2% of the total," adding, "We will continue to improve the quality of the AI-based solitary death prevention and response service and strive to expand it to all cities and counties in order to reduce the occurrence of solitary deaths."

Meanwhile, the service is currently being operated in eight cities and counties within the province. Gyeonggi Province plans to expand participation to additional cities and counties based on the effectiveness of the service.
