Improving Urban Railway Safety and Service Quality
Through Enhanced Employee Working Conditions
Lee Gwangchuk, President of Daejeon Transit Corporation, personally inspected the sites to improve employees' working conditions and thereby enhance the safety and service quality of the urban railway. This measure was taken based on the belief that employees' working conditions directly impact the safety and service quality of the urban railway.
This year, the corporation has set 'realizing employee happiness' as a key task to ensure the effective implementation of its management policies. From January 12 to January 19, site inspections were conducted at the headquarters, major stations, and vehicle depots.
Members of the planning and budget team participated in these inspections, focusing on observing actual working environments and directly listening to the inconveniences experienced by employees during their work.
During these site inspections, various improvement needs were identified, including office spaces and work facilities that have become inconvenient due to prolonged use, as well as measures to enhance employee safety and convenience.
The corporation is currently reviewing a total of 31 workplace environment improvement projects, which include requests from each department and tasks identified through internal inspections.
Main items include: ▲ additional installation of showers within stations ▲ replacement of old office equipment and furnishings ▲ noise reduction in server rooms ▲ replacement of heating and cooling systems ▲ replacement and new purchase of work vehicles ▲ securing additional office space.
In particular, considering the nature of urban railway work, which involves frequent shift and night duties, the corporation is also reviewing a plan to separate showers that have been operated as unisex in some stations. This is a practical improvement measure aimed at enhancing employee hygiene, protecting privacy, and increasing job satisfaction.
President Lee stated, "The safety and service level of the urban railway come from the focus and pride of the employees working on site," adding, "Taking into account our financial conditions, we will gradually improve the areas that employees can directly feel."
