Gangjin County in Jeollanam-do is launching a home renovation project to improve the residential environment for low-income people with disabilities in rural and fishing communities.
On January 21, Gangjin County announced the full-scale implementation of the "2026 Rural Home Renovation Project for People with Disabilities." This year, the project will cover 16 households, with a total budget of 60.8 million KRW, providing up to 3.8 million KRW per household.
The support includes improvements to residential convenience facilities such as eliminating level differences within the home, widening doorways, remodeling bathrooms, adjusting kitchen counter heights, and installing some external facilities, all aimed at enhancing daily living convenience for people with disabilities.
The eligible recipients are low-income households with people with disabilities residing in Gangjin County. Applicants must be registered as persons with disabilities under Article 2 of the Welfare of Disabled Persons Act and have a household income below the previous year's average monthly income of urban workers. However, households that have received the same or similar home renovation support from the national or local government within the past three years are excluded.
Among the applicant households, the county will review eligibility and housing conditions, conduct consultations and on-site inspections, and then select the final beneficiaries to implement the project.
Kim Eunsook, Director of the Resident Welfare Division, stated, "We hope this project will serve as an opportunity for the community to collectively ensure the safety and daily convenience of our neighbors with disabilities," adding, "We expect it will make a meaningful difference in improving the actual living conditions of vulnerable households."
Meanwhile, over the past two years, Gangjin County has supported a total of 32 households through the home renovation project for people with disabilities. The county plans to continue implementing housing and welfare support programs for vulnerable groups. For inquiries about the project, please contact the Resident Welfare Team at your local town or township office.
