On January 21, Lee Mingun, Mayor of Ansan City in Gyeonggi Province, presented this direction for city administration at the '40th Anniversary of City Status New Year's Press Briefing' held at city hall.
Mayor Lee stated, "The development of Ansan Science Valley (ASV) within the Gyeonggi Free Economic Zone, covering 500,000 pyeong, is a core project for a sustainable future in Ansan," adding, "By attracting global companies and international schools, we will establish it as a hub for advanced robotics and manufacturing businesses based on research and development (R&D)."
He also outlined plans to undertake a major overhaul of the Banwol and Sihwa National Industrial Complexes, which have traditionally been focused on manufacturing. By transforming these areas into AI Transformation (AX) demonstration complexes, the city aims to address workforce shortages, rising costs, and technological gaps. In addition, the Singil General Industrial Complex will attract high-tech industries to create quality jobs.
Mayor Lee reaffirmed his commitment to establishing an 'Advanced Integrated Medical Center' in the vicinity of Hanyang University ERICA campus. In particular, he emphasized, "We will ensure the successful attraction of Hanyang University Hospital, based on trust, following the recent signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Hanyang Foundation, Hanyang University, and Hanyang University Medical Center."
He also announced plans to steadily push forward with the integrated underground development of the Ansan Line. This project will underground approximately 5.12 kilometers from Cho Station to Jungang Station, and develop the 215,000 pyeong above, equivalent to 100 soccer fields, into citizen-centered green spaces, parks, cultural and leisure areas, as well as everyday commercial spaces. To this end, the city will conduct a basic planning study for integrated development this year.
Education and welfare are also key focus areas for Mayor Lee this year. He stressed, "Education is the future of Ansan," and pledged, "We will ensure that no one leaves the city because of educational concerns."
Mayor Lee aims to strengthen the virtuous cycle connecting education, industry, and employment. To achieve this, the city will expand the 'Gangnam Online Lectures,' which are accessible anywhere for just 10,000 won, and operate a gifted education center, Gyeonggi Province's first vocational education innovation district, and a robotics vocational education center. These initiatives are designed both to nurture future talent and to supply quality personnel to local industries.
In the field of welfare, the city will provide comprehensive support throughout the entire life cycle, from infancy to old age. By expanding integrated local care support, housing welfare centers, dementia-specialized nursing homes, and multi-purpose senior centers, Ansan will build a robust safety net for its residents.
Additionally, the city plans to improve residents' living environments by expanding cultural and leisure infrastructure, including hosting the 'Ansan International Street Theater Festival' and 'Ansan Festa,' as well as renewing Lake Park and redeveloping Seongpo Square.
Mayor Lee stated, "We will prove Ansan's leap forward through real change, so that living in Ansan becomes the greatest source of pride for all citizens."
