300,000 Won in Local Currency Provided to Pregnant Women Over 20 Weeks
Lee: "We Will Implement Childbirth and Childcare Policies That Citizens Can Truly Feel"
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 21st that it will abolish the residency period requirement for pregnancy support funds provided to pregnant women in the region and expand the eligibility criteria.
Previously, to receive the pregnancy support fund in Yongin, applicants were required to have resided in the area for at least 180 days. However, with the removal of this requirement, starting this year, any pregnant woman who is at least 20 weeks pregnant and whose resident registration is in Yongin as of the application date can receive the pregnancy support fund, regardless of the length of residency.
The pregnancy support fund is 300,000 won and is provided in the form of local currency.
The city explained that the policy was improved in response to criticism that citizens who moved to Yongin in the middle or later stages of pregnancy, or military families, were excluded from support, and that mothers who gave birth prematurely before fulfilling the residency period after moving in fell into a policy blind spot and could not receive support.
According to the city, as of last year, 6,188 out of 7,349 pregnant women with resident registration in Yongin received the support fund. Fifty-two pregnant women were unable to receive the support fund because they did not meet the residency period requirement.
Lee Sangil, Mayor of Yongin, stated, "We will continue to develop meticulous and comprehensive childbirth and childcare support policies that citizens can truly feel, in order to make Yongin a great place to raise children."
