AgentAI announced on January 21 that its subsidiary Needs Games’ new action RPG, "Dark December," ranked first in the free games category on the Japanese iOS (Apple App Store) chart ahead of its official global launch.
As of 8:53 a.m. the previous day, "Dark December" topped the Japanese App Store’s free games category, surpassing numerous global competitors. This achievement was reached solely through pre-downloads before the official service launch, reflecting the high level of anticipation and interest among Japanese users.
In particular, the cumulative views of the game's videos and content have surpassed 3 million, proving its strong buzz among local gamers even before release. Industry observers note that such a result in the Japanese market prior to official launch is highly unusual.
This accomplishment is also significant for AgentAI. Following a change in its largest shareholder in November last year, AgentAI restructured its business and fully entered the gaming sector by acquiring Needs Games.
A company representative emphasized, “The success in the Japanese market is highly meaningful, as it demonstrates that our business diversification strategy is bearing fruit rapidly.”
"Dark December" inherits key resources from the global hit "Undecember," while featuring controls optimized for mobile, enhanced action elements, and high-quality graphics. This level of polish is seen as having precisely targeted the preferences of Japanese action RPG users, driving its early popularity.
An AgentAI official stated, “Ranking first in Japan before the global official launch proves that ‘Dark December’ has the competitiveness to succeed in the global market as well. ‘Dark December’ will play a pivotal role not only in driving revenue growth for Needs Games but also in enhancing the corporate value of its parent company, AgentAI.”
The official added, “Building on this achievement, we plan to combine the development capabilities of Needs Games with AgentAI’s management efficiency to make 2026 the first year of profitability and growth.”
Meanwhile, "Dark December" was officially released in Japan and other global markets on January 20, marking the start of its full-scale global service.
