Up to 3 Million Won Support Per Business
Jongno-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jeong Moon-heon), will hold an open call for the “2026 Beautiful Signboard Street Project” for 15 days from January 26 to February 9.
On January 21, the district announced that it is launching this project to improve the cityscape and create a safe and pleasant street environment by renovating illegal and aging signboards and replacing them with Korean-centered LED signboards. The plan is to maximize the revitalization of local commercial areas and the effectiveness of customized street improvements through a resident-led approach. The target areas for the open call are regions with a concentration of livelihood-based businesses, areas near major tourist attractions, and densely populated zones with high foot traffic, where the project is expected to have a significant impact.
To apply, residents must refer to the district office website and submit the required documents to their local community center by February 9. Afterward, the district will select the final target areas through a review by the Outdoor Advertising Review Committee and a public notice for residents, and will provide up to 3 million won per business for signboard replacement costs.
Since 2008, starting with Daehak-ro, Jongno-gu has led the “Beautiful Signboard Street” project in areas such as Samcheongdong-gil, Sejong-ro, Naksan-gil, Bukchon-ro, Donhwamun-ro, and Jongno 52-gil, working to revitalize local commercial districts and enhance the urban landscape.
Last year, the project was implemented for 53 businesses in the Cheonggyecheon-ro area of Sungin 2-dong, providing tailored consulting in collaboration with a resident committee composed of building owners and business representatives, which received a positive response.
Jeong Moon-heon, Mayor of Jongno-gu, stated, "With the united spirit of our residents, we will transform the streets of Jongno into pleasant and vibrant spaces," adding, "I hope many residents and businesses will participate and experience the joy of seeing our streets change firsthand."
