[Weather] Frigid Morning Commute... Temperatures Around Minus 10 Degrees Celsius

On Wednesday, the 21st, morning temperatures are expected to hover around minus 10 degrees Celsius across most regions of the country, with snow forecasted in various areas.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the expected snowfall through the 22nd is approximately 1 cm in central and southern North Chungcheong, 1 to 3 cm in the five West Sea islands, inland northern Sejong and northern South Chungcheong, 1 to 5 cm in central inland Gwangju, central Jeonnam, western southern coast, northern coastal Jeonbuk, and southern inland Jeonbuk, 3 to 8 cm (with some areas exceeding 10 cm) in the southern coastal Jeonbuk, western coastal Jeonnam, and coastal Jeju, 5 to 20 cm (with some areas exceeding 25 cm) in the mountainous regions of Jeju, and 10 to 30 cm in Ulleungdo and Dokdo.


Expected precipitation amounts are around 1 mm in the five West Sea islands, Daejeon, Sejong, inland northern South Chungcheong, western coastal South Chungcheong, and central and southern North Chungcheong; less than 5 mm in northern coastal Jeonbuk and southern inland Jeonbuk; 5 to 10 mm in southern coastal Jeonbuk and western coastal Jeonnam; 5 to 20 mm in Jeju; and 10 to 30 mm in Ulleungdo and Dokdo.


As of 5 a.m., major regional temperatures are as follows: Seoul -11.8 degrees Celsius, Incheon -10.4 degrees, Suwon -10.8 degrees, Chuncheon -14.3 degrees, Gangneung -6.3 degrees, Cheongju -8.9 degrees, Daejeon -8.7 degrees, Jeonju -8.7 degrees, Gwangju -6.3 degrees, Jeju 2.0 degrees, Daegu -6.3 degrees, Busan -2.7 degrees, Ulsan -4.7 degrees, and Changwon -4.0 degrees. Daytime highs are forecasted to range from minus 6 to 3 degrees Celsius.


Fine dust concentrations are expected to be at 'good' levels nationwide due to smooth atmospheric dispersion.


Wave heights in the seas are forecasted to be 1.0 to 3.5 meters in the East Sea, 1.0 to 3.0 meters in the West Sea, and 0.5 to 3.0 meters in the South Sea. In the offshore areas (up to about 200 km from the coastline), wave heights will be 1.5 to 4.0 meters in the East and South Seas, and 1.0 to 4.0 meters in the West Sea.
