Capture Teams Mobilized Across Five Districts in Daejeon with Police and Fire Department Cooperation
Citizens Urged to Avoid Night Hikes and Isolated Trails
Daejeon City has issued guidelines and urged citizens to exercise special caution following recent sightings of wild boars in urban areas.
The city has activated a response system involving the police and fire departments, operating through capture teams composed of 101 members across each district. In addition, the city is working to prevent incidents in advance by posting banners at the entrances of major hiking trails.
However, the city emphasized that it is important for citizens to familiarize themselves with how to respond in case they unexpectedly encounter a wild boar.
The main safety guidelines provided by Daejeon City are as follows: ▲ (Stay calm) Do not scream, turn your back, or run. ▲ (Take cover) Maintain eye contact with the wild boar and quickly hide behind a rock or tree. ▲ (Do not provoke) Do not throw stones or make threatening gestures. ▲ (Report immediately) Evacuate to a safe location and immediately report the sighting to 119, 112, or the local district office.
In particular, as this is currently the wild boar mating season, which can increase their aggressiveness, citizens are advised to avoid hiking at night or taking isolated trails, and to exercise extra caution.
Baek Gye-gyeong, Director of Environmental Policy at Daejeon City, stated, "We will prioritize citizen safety and do our utmost to capture and block wild boars in cooperation with relevant agencies. We also ask that citizens familiarize themselves with the safety guidelines and respond calmly and report promptly if they encounter a wild boar."
