President Lee Holds Phone Call with Emir of Qatar: "Expecting Expanded Cooperation in Defense, Defense Industry, and Energy"

President Lee Jaemyung held a phone call with Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar on January 20, according to Kim Namjoon, spokesperson for the presidential office. This conversation took place approximately six months after their first call in July of last year.

During the call, President Lee expressed his hope that South Korea and Qatar would continue to broaden the scope of their cooperation in various fields, including defense, defense industry, energy, and infrastructure.


Emir Tamim praised South Korea's significant contributions to Qatar's national development, based on the trust and expectations that come with being Qatar's "comprehensive strategic partner." In response, President Lee requested Qatar's continued attention and support to ensure that Korean companies can operate smoothly in the country.


Additionally, President Lee noted Qatar's active role as a regional mediator in international conflicts, including those in the Middle East, and called for Qatar's continued constructive involvement in promoting global stability.


Finally, the two leaders agreed to meet in person in the near future to engage in in-depth discussions on ways to further strengthen bilateral relations.
