Chungnam to Support Solar Power and ESS Installations in Industrial and Agro-Industrial Complexes

Provincial, Municipal, and Private Investment of 9.32 Billion Won
Expanding Self-Consumption to Reduce Electricity Costs and Achieve Carbon Neutrality Simultaneously

Chungnam Province is launching support for the installation of solar power and energy storage systems (ESS) for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) located in industrial and agro-industrial complexes, as well as for individually located businesses, in an effort to reduce electricity costs in the industrial sector and accelerate RE100 implementation.

This new initiative focuses on 'self-consumption' of generated electricity, with the aim of driving the transition to carbon neutrality in the industrial sector.

On January 20, the province announced that it will implement the 'Industrial (Agro-Industrial) Complex Solar Power and Energy Storage System Installation Support Project' for the first time this year.

The project supports companies in installing solar panels and ESS on unused spaces such as rooftops and parking lots, enabling them to directly use the electricity generated.

A total of 9.32 billion won will be invested in the project, including 3 billion won from the provincial budget, 3 billion won from city and county budgets, and 3.32 billion won in private sector contributions.

Support categories include self-consumption solar power installation, ESS installation, and solar power/ESS systems for reducing shared electricity use in industrial (agro-industrial) complexes. Companies can select the most suitable option based on their size and the conditions of their complex.

To be eligible, self-consumption solar power systems must have a minimum capacity of 100kW, and ESS installations must have at least 200kWh. Any additional costs for exceeding the standard capacity (300kW for solar, 300kWh for ESS) must be covered by the applicant.

The newly introduced 'shared electricity reduction' category this year involves installing equipment on municipality-owned land to reduce power consumption at public facilities such as wastewater treatment plants and streetlights. Up to 500 million won (including city/county funding) will be provided per complex.

Interested companies must apply to their respective city or county, which will review the feasibility and recommend candidates to the province. On-site evaluations will be conducted from March to April, with final selections to be announced in April.

Selected companies are required to use low-carbon solar modules and must install a remote terminal unit (RTU) to collect generation data for integration with the Chungnam Carbon Neutral Industry Center's unified monitoring system.

The application deadline is February 27, 2026. For more details, contact the Carbon Neutral Economy Division of the provincial government or the relevant department in each city or county.
