Recognized for a Unique Poetic World with the Collection "Tofu, Eggs, and Voyager"
Shim Jaehwi, a professor in the Department of Literary Content Creation at Daejin University (President Jang Seokhwan), has been selected as the winner of the 1st "Oh Takbeon Literary Award," established by the Jecheon Cultural Foundation and Jecheon Cultural Center.
The winning work is Professor Shim Jaehwi's poetry collection "Tofu, Eggs, and Voyager," published by Munhakdongne in March 2025. The judges commented, "Professor Shim Jaehwi has demonstrated a unique and mature poetic world based on his active creative work over the past two years."
The Jecheon Cultural Foundation and Jecheon Cultural Center established the "Oh Takbeon Literary Award" and invited submissions from poets who have published at least three poetry collections and have been active for more than 15 years since their debut.
Professor Shim expressed his feelings, stating, "I feel both fearful and grateful to be the first recipient of an award bearing the name of poet Oh Takbeon, and I miss him."
Since his debut in the quarterly magazine "Writer's World," Professor Shim has established his own poetic identity through collections such as "Wind Blowing Moderately Lonely," "Shadow," and "Chinese Blind Masseur." He has previously received the Contemporary Poetry Coterie Award, Discovery Literature Award, and Kim Jongcheol Literary Award, earning recognition for his literary achievements from both critics and readers.
The award ceremony for the 1st Oh Takbeon Literary Award is scheduled to be held at 2 p.m. on the 7th of next month at the Jecheon Arts Center.
