Osan District Heating Rates to Drop by 1% Starting Next Month

DS Power's Rate Reduction Decision
Expected to Ease Household Financial Burden

The district heating rates in Osan, Gyeonggi Province, will be reduced by 1% starting next month.

Osan District Heating Rates to Drop by 1% Starting Next Month

On January 20, the Osan city government announced that residents’ heating costs will be eased from next month, following the decision by DS Power Co., Ltd., the district energy supplier, to lower district heating rates.

This rate reduction was prompted by a series of complaints from residents that district heating rates in Osan were higher than those of Korea District Heating Corporation. Since February of last year, the city has been in discussions with DS Power, conveying its stance that the rate gap should be narrowed to alleviate the financial burden on households.

Despite facing business challenges such as overall cost losses and delays in occupancy at Segyo 2 District, DS Power reportedly made this decision to help reduce residents’ living expenses.

The rate reduction will apply to all supply categories, including residential, commercial, and public use, and will take effect on the first of next month.

The city aims to lower residents’ cost of living and increase the benefits of energy use through this rate reduction. In addition, Osan plans to continue communicating with DS Power to further narrow the rate gap with Korea District Heating Corporation, provide heating rate discounts for low-income households, and ensure stable heat supply within the region.

Lee Gwonjae, Mayor of Osan, stated, “We will do our utmost, together with suppliers and related organizations, to stabilize rates and realize energy welfare for our citizens.”
