'Library and Youth Space in One Place'... Hwaseong 'Bongdam Wawoo Library' Opens

Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province has established a public library in Bongdam-eup that serves as a multifunctional space, combining a library and a cultural venue for youth.

On the 19th, Hwaseong City held the opening ceremony for the 'Bongdam Wawoo Library,' located at 7, Wauro 15beon-gil, Bongdam-eup, and announced on the 20th that the facility has officially begun operations.

This facility is a complex space: the first and second floors are dedicated to the library, while the third floor houses the Bongdam Youth Cultural Center. The library features a general reading room and rooms for children and infants, while the Bongdam Youth Cultural Center includes a dance practice room, a studio media room, and a youth operations committee room.

Bongdam Wawoo Library and Bongdam Youth Cultural Center are hosting a variety of events in conjunction with the opening ceremony, including exhibitions and hands-on experiences. Until February 6, the first floor of the library will showcase original illustrations from the books "Franz Kafka's Drawings" and "On Some Days," as well as creative works by Hwaseong citizens. In addition, there will be activities such as a lettering cake-making event to celebrate the opening, an artificial intelligence (AI) book-making workshop, family experience programs, and performances.

The library is open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and until 6 p.m. on weekends. The Youth Cultural Center operates from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and until 6 p.m. on weekends. Jung Myunggeun, Mayor of Hwaseong, stated, "Bongdam Wawoo Library is a space where the youth of Hwaseong can envision their future and express themselves," adding, "We will strive to establish it as a complex cultural space where various generations can learn new knowledge and communicate with one another."
