"Practical and Actionable Strategies from a Real-World Perspective"
A seminar will be held to review the main contents and legal issues of the "Framework Act on the Promotion of Artificial Intelligence and the Establishment of a Trust-Based Environment" (AI Framework Act), which will take effect on January 22, and to present response strategies for companies.
Taepyungyang Law Firm (Managing Partner Lee Junki) announced on January 20 that it will co-host a seminar titled "Implementation of the AI Framework Act and Corporate Response Strategies" with the Korean Society of Artificial Intelligence Law (President Choi Kyungjin) on February 2 at the 25th-floor seminar room of the Taepyungyang building in Gongpyeong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul.
The opening remarks for the seminar will be delivered by Choi Kyungjin, Professor at Gachon University and President of the Korean Society of Artificial Intelligence Law. The welcoming remarks will be given by Cho Kyungsik, former Vice Minister of Science and ICT and current advisor at Taepyungyang, and Lee Jinsu, Director General for AI Policy Planning at the Ministry of Science and ICT.
The seminar will be divided into four sessions.
In the first session, Kang Jeonghee, attorney at Taepyungyang and former senior legal counsel at Samsung Electronics and Supreme Court judicial researcher (Judicial Research and Training Institute, 37th class), will give a presentation on "Key Issues of the AI Framework Act and Industry Response Strategies."
The second session will feature Jo Amyong, Principal at Samsung SDS, presenting on "AI Response Strategies from a Compliance Perspective - Focusing on Cases in the Financial Industry." In the third session, Kang Hyekyung, Ph.D., from Korea University, will speak on "Trends in Overseas AI Laws and Policies and Response Strategies for International Business."
Dr. Kang, an expert in AI law and personal information protection law, is currently a professor at the Korea University Future Growth Research Institute and has published a book on the "EU Artificial Intelligence Act," the world's first comprehensive AI law enacted in 2024.
The fourth session will be an open discussion. Choi Kyungjin, President of the Korean Society of Artificial Intelligence Law, will serve as moderator. In addition to the three presenters, Kim Hyungjun, Director at the National Information Society Agency, and Yoon Chan, General Manager at Microsoft, will participate as discussants.
The seminar will be moderated by Oh Sein, attorney at Taepyungyang (5th Bar Exam), formerly of the Personal Information Protection Team at Samsung Electronics Legal Office.
Taepyungyang stated, "With the AI Framework Act coming into effect on January 22, new legal and institutional standards covering the entire process of AI development and utilization will be applied across companies and industries."
Taepyungyang added, "The implementation of the AI Framework Act is expected to be a turning point that goes beyond the introduction of simple regulations, requiring a fundamental overhaul of corporate AI strategies, governance, and risk management systems. In particular, increased obligations for AI operation and management, enhanced requirements for transparency and accountability, and the establishment of proactive response systems for high-risk AI are expected to have a direct impact on overall corporate management and technology development strategies."
Taepyungyang continued, "At this seminar, we will comprehensively review the main contents and legal issues of the AI Framework Act and provide practical response strategies for companies from a practical perspective. We hope this will be a meaningful forum for discussing sustainable growth strategies for companies in the new regulatory environment created by the implementation of the AI Framework Act."
Participation in the seminar is free of charge, and the registration deadline is January 30.
Meanwhile, Taepyungyang Law Firm recorded sales of 440.2 billion won last year (based on National Tax Service filings), ranking second after Kim & Chang Law Office.
