Global Revenue Surpasses $1.7 Billion
Surpasses "Inside Out 2"
Earns Over $600 Million in China
Disney's film "Zootopia 2" has rewritten the box office history of Hollywood animation. Not only did it surpass its predecessor, but it also dethroned the previous record-holder, "Inside Out 2," to claim the top spot.
According to Box Office Mojo, a U.S. box office tracking website, as of January 19, the film earned $393.24 million in North America and $1.3133 billion overseas, reaching a global cumulative revenue of $1.70654 billion (approximately 2.5142 trillion won).
This figure surpasses the previous Hollywood animation record set by Pixar's "Inside Out 2" ($1.69886 billion). With this achievement, Disney now occupies all of the top three spots in the all-time box office rankings for animated films: "Zootopia 2" (1st), "Inside Out 2" (2nd), and "Frozen 2" (3rd). "Zootopia 2" has also ranked 9th in the all-time global box office rankings, including live-action films.
The decisive driving force behind this record was the overseas market. In particular, the film generated over $619 million in ticket sales in China alone, marking the highest box office performance ever for a Hollywood film released in China.
Alan Bergman, Chairman of Disney Entertainment, said in a statement, "This is an incredible achievement," adding, "Above all, it is the result of the passion of fans around the world."
However, the number one spot among all animated films worldwide still belongs to China. The animated film "Ne Zha 2," released last year, recorded over $2.2 billion in sales, driven by explosive popularity in its home country.
