One New Member to Be Hired for Each Communications Team
Central government agencies at the ministerial and vice-ministerial level are set to hire a large number of personnel responsible for digital communications. This unprecedented move, in which 48 major ministries will simultaneously recruit staff for digital communications, is seen as part of President Lee Jaemyung’s efforts to actively promote government policies and significantly strengthen communication with the public.
According to government ministries on January 20, major ministries such as the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Broadcasting and Media Communications Commission plan to issue recruitment notices for digital communications personnel within the first half of the year and step up public outreach efforts.
The 48 ministries are planning to hire digital communications staff within the first half of this year, with separate recruitment announcements expected soon. Each ministry has a digital communications team for promoting government policies, and it is reported that one new member will be hired for each team, greatly expanding the pool of communications talent.
An official from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, which is responsible for public communication, stated, “All ministries at the ministerial and vice-ministerial level plan to strengthen their practical workforce for digital communications,” adding, “By reinforcing our pool of digital communications professionals, we will promote policies in a way that resonates more with the public.”
Personnel in charge of digital communications will operate each ministry’s social media channels, deliver government policies in an accessible manner to the public, and be responsible for establishing various digital communications strategies and plans.
The Ministry of Science and ICT, which is driving AI policy, announced, “We plan to recruit digital communications staff at the level of Grade 5 (term-based appointment, level B),” adding, “They will be responsible for online promotion, new media management, card news, and video production, among other tasks.”
A government official commented, “It is quite unusual for as many as 48 government ministries to simultaneously expand their workforce to strengthen digital communications,” adding, “This is evidence of just how much the Lee Jaemyung administration values communication with the public.”
Another ministry official hinted, “There will likely be fierce behind-the-scenes competition to secure top positions in major ministries,” and added, “A large-scale reshuffling is expected, as current digital communications staff whose terms are ending may move to more preferred ministries or positions.”
