One New Member to Be Hired for Each Communications Team
Central administrative agencies at the ministerial and vice-ministerial level are set to recruit a large number of personnel responsible for digital communication. This unprecedented move, in which 48 major government ministries will simultaneously hire staff for digital communication roles, is seen as part of President Lee Jaemyung’s efforts to actively promote government policies and significantly strengthen communication with the public.
According to government ministries on January 20, major agencies-including the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Broadcasting and Media Communications Commission-plan to issue recruitment notices for digital communication staff within the first half of the year and ramp up public outreach efforts.
All 48 ministries are planning to hire digital communication personnel in the first half of this year, with separate recruitment announcements expected soon. Each ministry operates a digital communication team to promote government policies, and it is reported that one new staff member will be hired across these teams, greatly expanding the pool of communication talent.
An official from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, which is in charge of public communication, stated, “All ministries at the ministerial and vice-ministerial level plan to reinforce their practical workforce for digital communication,” adding, “By strengthening our pool of digital communication specialists, we will promote policies in a way that resonates more with the public.”
Personnel responsible for digital communication will operate each ministry’s social media channels, deliver government policies to the public in an accessible manner, and be tasked with developing various digital communication strategies and plans.
The Ministry of Science and ICT, which is driving AI policy, said, “We plan to hire digital communication staff at the administrative officer level (Grade 5, contract position),” adding, “They will be responsible for online promotion, new media management, card news, and video production.”
A government official commented, “It is highly unusual for as many as 48 government ministries to simultaneously move to strengthen digital communication by expanding their workforce,” adding, “This demonstrates just how much importance the Lee Jaemyung administration places on communication with the public.”
Another ministry official noted, “There will likely be fierce behind-the-scenes competition to secure positions in major ministries,” adding, “A large-scale reshuffle is also expected, as current digital communication staff whose terms are expiring move to preferred ministries or positions.”
