Kick-off Ceremony Held at Sokcho Culture and Arts Center
Senior Employment Program Surpasses 4,000 Participants
Sokcho City in Gangwon Province will hold the “2026 Senior Job and Social Activity Support Project Kick-off Ceremony” at the Sokcho Culture and Arts Center for four days from January 20 to 23, officially launching its senior employment program.

The kick-off ceremony will be attended by 2,250 senior participants affiliated with five implementing organizations. The event will include safety training to prevent workplace accidents and sessions to instill pride and commitment among the participants.
The Senior Job and Social Activity Support Project aims to provide a variety of job opportunities for seniors, helping them maintain a stable life in retirement and expanding opportunities for social participation. Eligible participants are recipients of the basic pension aged 65 or older, although certain types of jobs are also open to those aged 60 and above.
The 2026 Sokcho City Senior Employment Program will consist of a total of 66 projects. The number of participants has increased by 252 from the previous year, reaching 4,059. The budget has also been raised by 1.9 billion won from the previous year to a total of 18.7 billion won.
The project types include public interest activities, competency-based roles, and community project groups. Participating seniors will be involved in programs run by five implementing organizations, including Sokcho City, Sokcho Senior Club, Sokcho Senior Welfare Center, Sokcho General Social Welfare Center, and the Sokcho Branch of the Korean Senior Citizens Association.
Lee Byeongseon, Mayor of Sokcho, stated, “I hope that the Senior Job and Social Activity Support Project will not only help seniors establish a stable income base but also serve as an opportunity for them to enjoy a healthy and vibrant retirement together with the local community.”
