Suwon Mayor Lee Jaejun Proposes to Expand Corporate Exchange and Cooperation with Zhuhai, China

Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province will expand corporate exchange and cooperation with Zhuhai City, China.

On the 19th, Lee Jaejun, Mayor of Suwon, visited the Zhuhai National Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone, an international sister city, and proposed to Wu Zetong, Mayor of Zhuhai, to expand business exchange and cooperation between the two cities.

The Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone is a national-level high-tech industrial development zone approved by the State Council of China in 1992. It covers a total area of 420.75 square kilometers and consists of branches such as aerospace, scientific industry, and research complexes. As a multi-functional development zone that integrates business, residential, research and education, and daily life functions, it provides corporate management, investment attraction, and administrative services. As of 2024, the total industrial output amounts to 12.8 trillion won.

After receiving a briefing on the current status of the Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone, the Suwon City delegation, including Mayor Lee Jaejun, visited two companies within the zone: Genpan Biotechnology and Kingsoft.

Genpan Biotechnology and Kingsoft are leading companies in the bio-medical and software-information technology (IT) sectors, respectively. The delegation held discussions with representatives from both companies and expressed their commitment to promoting exchange and cooperation between Suwon City and these enterprises.

Mayor Lee Jaejun stated, "Zhuhai and Suwon share a common goal of fostering advanced industries such as semiconductors, biotechnology, and artificial intelligence. Business exchanges will be a driving force for both cities to grow as advanced research and science hubs."

Mayor Wu Zetong responded, "Zhuhai is actively fostering seven major industries, including semiconductors, smart home appliances, and information and communications, with the strongest competitiveness in the semiconductor sector. In particular, we have strengths in semiconductor design and hope to cooperate with Suwon City across various industries, including semiconductors."

Suwon City signed a sister city agreement with Zhuhai City in August 2006. Every year, Suwon invites a Zhuhai delegation to the Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival, while Zhuhai also invites Suwon City to various international events, including the China International Aviation & Aerospace Exhibition.
