Former Incheon Airport CEO Kim Kyungwook Faces Six-Month Prison Term for Political Funds Act Violation

Prosecutors have requested a prison sentence for Kim Kyungwook, former CEO of Incheon International Airport Corporation, who has been put on trial for violating the Political Funds Act.

According to Yonhap News Agency on January 19, prosecutors asked the Criminal Division 2 of the Cheongju District Court's Chungju Branch to sentence former CEO Kim, who was indicted without detention on charges of violating the Political Funds Act, to six months in prison and to order the forfeiture of 10 million won.

For Mr. A, an electrical equipment contractor who was indicted on the same charge, prosecutors sought a fine of 2.5 million won.

Former CEO Kim was indicted on suspicion of receiving 10 million won in cash from Mr. A, the electrical equipment contractor, at a cafe in Hoam-dong, Chungju, on March 31, 2020, ahead of the 21st National Assembly general election.

In response, former CEO Kim has reportedly denied the charges, stating, "The allegations are not true" and calling them "clearly false claims."

Meanwhile, Kim Kyungwook ran as the Democratic Party of Korea candidate for the Chungju constituency in both the 21st and 22nd general elections, but was defeated both times by Lee Jongbae of the People Power Party.
