Bonghwa County Issues 35 Billion Won in 'Bonghwa Love Gift Certificates' to Boost Local Economy and Retain Regional Funds

Bonghwa County in North Gyeongsang Province has officially launched the issuance and sale of the 'Bonghwa Love Gift Certificate' to invigorate the stagnant local economy and prevent the outflow of regional funds.

Amid high inflation, the county has focused on creating a 'virtuous economic cycle' by increasing tangible benefits for residents and encouraging local consumption, which is expected to lead to revenue recovery for small businesses.

Bonghwa County announced plans to issue a total of 35 billion won worth of Bonghwa Love Gift Certificates in 2026 (25 billion won in paper certificates and 10 billion won in card-type certificates). For the first phase, the county issued 20 billion won (10 billion won in paper certificates and 10 billion won in card-type certificates), with sales beginning on January 1.

This issuance offers a 10% discount on purchase amounts until the allocated budget is exhausted. The monthly purchase limit is 500,000 won per person, combining both paper and card/mobile types.

Paper gift certificates can be purchased at 20 designated financial institutions within the county, including NH Nonghyup Bank and Saemaeul Geumgo, by presenting identification. Card-type certificates can be charged and used via a dedicated app, enhancing user convenience.

Bonghwa County expects that this issuance will help alleviate the financial burden on residents struggling with high inflation, while also boosting small business sales through increased consumption, thereby revitalizing the overall local economy.

A Bonghwa County official stated, "The Bonghwa Love Gift Certificate is a policy tool that provides tangible benefits to residents and serves as a driving force for consumption recovery in the local commercial sector," adding, "Through stable issuance and management, we aim to serve as a catalyst for the local economy."
